Burgerlijke solidariteit
Abstract
Solidarity of citizens. Not only the Left, but everyone these days is confronted with 'language idling' and speechlessness - words spoken while the conditions for meaningful use are not met. The Left may very well borrow the vocabulary of individual choice from the Right, the more so since the Right recently has forsaken its legacy by interpreting citizenship not as the right to be different, but as normalisation into the national culture. Pitfalls of embracing individualism may be avoided by coupling it with notions of emancipation for all members of a community of fate, of public happiness and of solidarity.
